Mountain View, California - August 3, 2004 - SteelEye Technology® Inc., a leading provider of proven enterprise IT reliability solutions for business continuity, today announced the availability of SteelEye LifeKeeper High Availability Clustering for Linux version 4.5, the latest release of SteelEye's award-winning technology for ensuring fault resilience of industry-standard Intel-based and plug compatible industry standard servers.
The cornerstone of this new release of LifeKeeper High Availability Clustering for Linux is certified support for servers and blades powered by Intel® Itanium® 2 and AMD Opteron™ chip-sets.
"The ability to deploy business critical applications and databases on powerful 64-bit Intel and Opteron servers, at a significantly lower-cost and therefore much high price-performance than proprietary RISC/Unix servers, will provide Linux with a significant boost in enterprise acceptance and adoption," said Paul Adams, CEO and president of SteelEye Technology. "However, while cost savings are valuable, performance supported by high availability and fault resilience continue to be the primary business critical requirements of IT. This new release of LifeKeeper, with support for Itanium and Opteron, fills the market need with a proven solution for ensuring high availability and therefore enables organizations to gain the greatest benefit and savings of Linux at the lowest possible cost."
"Delivering Support for Itanium and Opteron servers is an important and strategic milestone in our SteelEye LifeKeeper product roadmap as many of our customers begin to deploy their core business applications and databases on Linux, and the requirement for high availability becomes essential," said Bob Williamson, vice president of products and services at SteelEye. "Our technology relationships with IBM, HP and SGI were instrumental in this process in terms of enabling us to deliver high availability solutions for their 64-bit IBM xSeries, HP ProLiant and SGI Altix server and blade server platforms."
