Oslo 2 September 2002: The Swedish National Supercomputer Center (NSC) is installing a 200 node Scali cluster with SCI based interconnect and ClusterEdge parallel application middleware. The 200 nodes in the cluster are interconnected as a three-dimensional torus (5x5x8) with distributed switching, using SCI adapter cards from Dolphin ICS. The 200 nodes with dual 2.2 GHz Intel Xeon CPUs and 2 GByte memory combined with the hardware and software infrastructure in ClusterEdge takes the solution to the forefront of supercomputing performance where it will by far be Scandinavia's most powerful computer with an estimated LinPack performance around 800 GFlops.
Scali ClusterEdge(tm) is a complete solution for building clusters from standard high volume components. ClusterEdge contains Scali's superior performance MPI implementation (ScaMPI), interconnect hardware from Dolphin ICS, and Scali Universe XE cluster management system. Scali Universe XE is the most comprehensive and integrated cluster management system available. It contains remote monitoring, configurable alarms, job control, software configuration management, and power and console management in a single system environment.
According to Matts Karlsson of NSC "this new cluster is an impressive addition to NSC's computing facilities", and "the price/performance and total cost of ownership of this ClusterEdge solution shows that cluster based supercomputing is able to leverage the rapid development of commodity technology." Morten Strøm, International Sales Manager for Scali said that "at Scali we take NSC's return to our solutions as a testimony to Scali's commitment to service customers' needs and the quality of our products. Our cluster solutions offer a unique scaling capability for the right price/performance to meet out customers' application and budget requirements."
About NSC:
NSC (www.nsc.liu.se) is provider of leading edge supercomputing resources to their partners SAAB and SMHI and academic research institutions throughout Sweden. The new cluster joins a Cray T3E with 272 CPUs, a SGI 3800 with 128 CPUs, a SGI 2000 with 48 CPUs and a SGI Onyx2 system with 36 CPUs, in addition to 10 smaller clusters with a total of 206 CPUs. The integration of the cluster is performed by Advanced Computer Technology AB of Linköping with assistance from Dolphin ICS and Scali AS.
About Scali:
Scali provides truly scalable clustering software technology offering an order of magnitude better price/performance for parallel applications compared to traditional computer systems. Scali´s cluster communication middleware (ScaMPI(tm)) and the Scali Universe(tm) cluster management system are available from leading hardware providers and system integrators like HP, Dell and Fujitsu Siemens Computers in addition to local system integrators world-wide. Scali also provides expert level consulting services for assisting ISVs and customers with application porting, performance tuning and system configuration. Among Scali´s customers are blue-chip companies like Daimler Chrysler, Rolls Royce and Lockheed Martin. Scali´s main shareholders are Four Seasons Venture, SND Invest, Kongsberg Gruppen and Intel.
