With just $500,000 and help from Dell Computer and Singapore Computer Systems, the NUS system could be among the world's top 500 supercomputers.
THE National University of Singapore (NUS) has cobbled together an innovative high-end computer that could just make it into the ranks of the 500 most powerful supercomputers in the world. The entire exercise cost NUS just $500,000.
The supercomputer is a 'clustered' network that links 64 nodes, or 128 CPUs (central processing units) to act like a single system. It has been installed at the NUS' School of Computing. NUS used commodity components from Dell Computer Corp, and the installation was done by Singapore Computer Systems Ltd (SCS).
