The Inquirer: SGI gives Intel Itanium Linux boost

A REPORT IN the Wall Street Journal said that Silicon Graphics Inc will introduce 64-way server systems using the Intel Itanium 2 chip and use an extended Linux OS which will give it an edge against IBM-based systems.
The claimed breakthrough allows 64 CPUs to share one pool of memory and even link together such servers to be clustered into supercomputer configurations.
The newspaper quoted a VP of marketing at SGI as saying that such supercomputers could act as wind tunnel simulators.
