Oracle plans this week to turn up the buzz on grid computing, a concept that competitors IBM and Microsoft have been touting for some time as a new way for businesses to ratchet up their computing power in a more efficient, cost-effective way than ever before.
Grid computing will be the big theme at the Oracle World customer conference in San Francisco, which gets under way Monday, the company said. Oracle is getting ready to release a host of new database and related software products designed around the grid concept. Those products will be the focus of the conference.
Grid computing "is by far the biggest technology leap since the Internet," said Robert Shimp, vice president of platform marketing at Oracle. "It's the biggest technology push we've made in a decade."
