A Geant4 (Version 6.0) tutorial course will take place at
Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee, USA, on January
12-14th, 2004. The tutorial will be conducted by instructors
from SLAC and will be aimed at novice and middle level users and
application developers. The classes will consist of lectures,
hands-on tryouts and open discussions.
GEANT4 is a toolkit simulating passage of particles through matter.
It is used in diverse applications, including simulation of high
energy and nuclear physics experiments, radiation shielding, space
radiation transport and effects, and medical physics. For more
information on Geant4, please visit the collaboration's web page at
http://cern.ch/geant4
The registration fee will be $170.00. Registration begins on Nov
21st, and will be limited to no more than 50 registrants, by available
space. For more information on the tutorial and registration, please
visit the tutorial course web page
http://isde.vanderbilt.edu/geant4.htm
The course will deal specifically with GEANT4 on Linux environments
using g++ 3.2 or higher. Participants will be expected to bring
their own laptop computers. Both wireless and cabled internet
accesses are provided (cable itself is not provided). Laptop can
be either
- running on Linux, or
- whatever OS with access to user's remote Linux machine
Participants will be expected to install Geant4 Version 6.0,
(to be released on December 12th) beforehand. For the installation
of Geant4 version 6.0, please visit
http://geant4.slac.stanford.edu/Vanderbilt.html
On the second day of this tutorial course, each participants (or
group of participants) are asked to give a brief self-introduction
presentation with a couple of slides to explain what they want to do
with Geant4. Each presentation will be no more than 5 minutes, each
group will only be given one time slot. Participation is highly
encouraged but not mandatory.
This tutorial course is being organized by Geant4 team at the
Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC), Radiation and Effects
Analysis Group at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center and Vanderbilt's
Radiation Effects and Reliability Group.
For your information, the second Geant4 Space Users' Workshop
will be held at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee, USA,
on May 10-12th, 2004. The information of the Workshop will be
circulated shortly.
