November 3, 2004. Natick, MA – Etnus, the provider of the most advanced debugger on Linux and UNIX, today announced that TotalView release 6.6 will become available next week at the SuperComputing 2004 conference. It includes support for Linux on IBM Power and Intel EM64T.
TotalView is an advanced 32- and 64-bit graphical debugger that gives software engineers complete control over threaded and parallel applications written in C, C++ or Fortran, and built-in, interactive memory debugging to detect leaks and monitor heap activity. TotalView’s proprietary memory debugging technology neither instruments code nor alters libraries, and is fully integrated into the debugger, allowing users to debug code and fix memory problems at the same time, eliminating the need to wait for post-mortem style reports common in stand-alone memory tools.
TotalView is available for the first time on two new platforms. “When software engineers move their code from one platform to the next, they don’t want to have to learn a new debugger,” describes Mary Kay Bunde, Director of Marketing at Etnus. “TotalView is available on most major Linux and UNIX platforms, easing ports of mission critical code from one platform to the next.”
Enhancing the Intel Offering
TotalView 6.6 adds support for Intel’s EM64T architecture running SuSE Enterprise Server (SLES) 9.0, continuing Etnus’ commitment to support the architectures that matter most to developers writing mission critical software. TotalView 6.6 also now supports Intel’s OpenMP and the Intel Fortran and C/C++ compilers for Linux, version 8.1.
Announcing Availability on Linux on IBM Power
TotalView 6.6 is available for the first time on IBM Power systems running SLES 9.0. In addition, it also now supports the most recent version of AIX, 5.3 on IBM Power systems, along with xlf 9.1 and Visual Age 7 on AIX.
Supporting SuSE 9.1 and SLES 9
Many observers have cited the lack of sophisticated development tools as a weakness in the Linux marketplace, and TotalView provides a premium, top-shelf debugging tool for this space. With deep, full-featured Linux support, TotalView introduce support for SuSE Linux one year ago on Intel x86 and AMD Athlon and Opteron. TotalView 6.6 adds SuSE 9.1 and SLES 9.0 support to 3 platforms: Intel EM64T and IA-64 (also includes SLES 8), as well as IBM Power.
