Digital Ribbon Signs Cross-marketing Partnership Agreement with Spanish Digital Animation Firm for on-demand rendering service.
Orlando, Fla., (Jan. 11, 2006) --- Orlando-based Digital Ribbon, a grassroots cooperative that provides its clients with vast computing power at a fraction of the retail cost, has signed a cross-marketing agreement with Maxwell Render, a digital animation firm based in Spain that hopes to compete with Pixar, LightWave and other giants of the digital animation industry whose work can be seen in such big-budget films as Lord of the Rings, King Kong and Titanic.
Erik Weaver, chief executive officer of Digital Ribbon, Maxwell Render will provide use of its digital animation software to Digital Ribbon clients, Weaver said. Both firms will earn commissions on software licensing agreements.
ÒThe leading digital animation providers wonÕt allow the use of third party computers, so our joint venture gives Maxwell Render a huge advantage in the marketplace,Ó said Weaver. ÒWe are seeing a transformation from ISP to ASP, to leverage this fact were are developing a new set of products that can consumed purely on demand.Ó
Under the agreement, an independent animator, or animation studio with a film assignment can acquire both animation software and the huge amounts of computer power required at a fraction of the current cost, Weaver said.
ÒWhat this means is that a independent animator or medium-budget film can have access to big-budget animation and that could mean blockbuster,Ó Weaver said.
